SELANGOR’S state-level Chinese New Year celebration will take place on Feb 8 at the Fo Guang Shan Dong Zen temple in Jenjarom, Kuala Langat.

State investment, trade, and mobility committee chairman Ng Sze Han said Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin had consented to attend the event.

A highlight of the celebration will be a 22m-tall lantern depicting a mountain scenery and the Leifeng Pagoda – an eight-sided, five-storey tower located in Hangzhou, China.

Ng said the lantern, inspired by the legend of the white snake, would be a central attraction, alongside an 8.5m-tall Selangor lantern with Year of the Snake design theme.

The Chinese New Year Lantern and Floral Festival at the temple until Feb 12, carries the theme “Keep going, the future is bright,” conveying wishes for courage, diligence, and a bright future to all visitors.

“We expect the event from 5.30pm to 11pm to attract over 30,000 visitors including tourists,” Ng said.

The annual celebration is held in collaboration with Invest Selangor Bhd, promoting both the lantern festival and floral exhibition.

Ng said the carnival-like atmosphere of the Chinese New Year celebration would reflect the unity, goodwill, and multicultural spirit of Selangor folk.

Those attending the event can also enjoy attractions like the Lumbini Garden featuring potted orchids and koi ponds, all illuminated by lanterns and LED lights throughout the temple grounds.

There will be 3,000 free parking bays available, with Civil Defence personnel on hand to guide motorists.
