THE 2025 edition of OCBC Cycle Kuala Lumpur will feature its longest ride in the city centre – 50km, 8km more than in the previous edition.
It will be the most challenging for the anticipated 3,000 riders, with over 2,000 having already registered prior to the official launch.
The two-loop ride comprising 25km per loop will see participants flagged off on April 27 in front of the iconic Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad.
They will pedal past famous streets, lush greenery and must-see iconic landmarks of Kuala Lumpur including PETRONAS Twin Towers, Tugu Negara and Masjid Negara.
There will also be a 25km race for new cyclists not ready yet for the bigger challenge.
Registration for OCBC Cycle KL 2025, carrying the “Let’s Go Cycle” theme, is open to those above 16 at www.ocbccyclekl.com until March 23.
The event remains the only mass cycling event on closed roads in the usually traffic-heavy city centre.
Participants may also ride in the 50km corporate category, called The KL Mayor’s Ride, in teams of 10.
Following the success of the Kids’ Push Bike category last year, OCBC Cycle KL 2025 will continue to feature the event at the same time and venue, but with an expansion to include those aged three to nine.
OCBC Cycle KL 2025 will feature prizes for three bicycle types for adults – mountain, road and folding bikes – for both men and women.
All participants will receive a medal and digital certificate, along with goodies from sponsors.
OCBC Bank and its Islamic banking subsidiary OCBC Al-Amin Bank Bhd are the main sponsors of the event organised by Multigreen Events Sdn Bhd.
It is supported by Kuala Lumpur City Hall, Malaysian National Cycling Federation and the police.
Multigreen Events chief executive Nezzam Malek said the stretch being made available to participants on event day will take them beyond the 7km they are used to during the Sunday KL car-free morning.
“This year’s edition will present a better opportunity for participants to soak in the sights and atmosphere of the city, thanks to the increased distance.”
OCBC Al-Amin chief executive Syed Abdull Aziz Syed Kechik said the event would continue to advocate environmentally-friendly and sustainable practices by facilitating recycling and ensuring minimal utilisation of single-use materials.
