DBKL: Root decay suspected cause of fallen tree on Jalan Pudu

ROOT decay is suspected as the cause of the tree fall incident in Jalan Pudu, Kuala Lumpur on Thursday (Jan 16).

However, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) said that the exact cause of the incident involving the 35-year-old tree had yet to be identified.

“Inspections of nearby trees on Jalan Pudu will be conducted to ensure public safety.

“In December 2024, DBKL instructed two contracting companies to carry out tree maintenance work, as well as pruning and felling, in the Bukit Bintang Parliamentary area, including Jalan Pudu," it said in a statement today (Jan 17).

DBKL added that the road was fully opened at 2pm on Friday (Jan 17) following rectification works.

The Thursday incident near Wisma Magnum had damaged a vehicle and injured two women.

DBKL confirmed that the 39-year-old woman and the 15-year-old teenager were both sent to the hospital.

DBKL said it has appointed a tree risk assessment contractor to evaluate the condition of 80 trees around the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur.

According to DBKL, as of Dec 31, 2024, a total of 17,626 trees had been pruned and treated across all 11 constituencies in Kuala Lumpur.

Special emphasis was given to trees located on main roads, in the city centre, residential areas and recreational parks.
