Over 900 former and current students, teachers gather for heartwarming reunion
SMK Convent Klang marked a historic milestone as it celebrated its centenary with over 900 former and current students and teachers coming together for a grand reunion dinner.
The joyous occasion was celebrated in the true tradition of the school’s rich heritage and the bond shared among generations of students.
The evening started with welcome speeches from organising chairman Datuk AR Peter and SMK Convent Klang Board of Governors chairman Puan Sri Low Chu Mooi, who extended their heartfelt gratitude to all those present.
“The centenary celebration is not just a gathering; it is a momentous and memorable event that beautifully encapsulated the spirit, tradition and unity of SMK Convent Klang.
“It will undoubtedly be cherished by everyone who attended, as it strengthens bonds within the Convent Klang community and celebrates a century of excellence and sisterhood,” said Chu Mooi.
The event was graced by the guest of honour Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur Rev Julian Leow and Sister Mary Agnes, who represented Sister Theresa Chua, Lady Superior of the Infant Jesus Sisters.
Both delivered inspiring speeches, congratulating the school on reaching its remarkable 100-year milestone.
Also present was Church of Our Lady of Lourdes Klang parish priest Rev Father Gregory Chan and school board of governors member Margaret Low.
Following the formalities, the festivities continued with vibrant performances by students from both primary and secondary levels, showcasing Malaysia’s rich cultural diversity through their captivating multicultural dances.
These performances not only entertained but also highlighted the school’s commitment to embracing diversity and fostering unity among its students.
The excitement continued with lucky draws and raffles, offering a range of prizes such as tickets to Japan and other Asean destinations, fine-dining experiences and branded electrical appliances.
The thrill of winning kept the energy high throughout the night.
The hall echoed with laughter and joy as attendees reconnected with old friends, teachers, principals and fellow alumni, some of whom had graduated as far back as 1954.
It was a heartwarming sight to see different generations sharing memories, stories and a sense of pride of being part of the Convent Klang family.
The dinner also aimed to raise funds for repairs and renovations of the ageing school.
