RESIDENTS of Taman Kepong in Kuala Lumpur have received RM100,000 worth of upgrades to their community park.
The improvements include a gazebo, outdoor gym and solar-powered lights.
Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng said he utilised his constituency funds to give the park a much-needed facelift.
“We used RM100,000 to give back to the neighbourhood and also cleared up weeds and rubbish at the park,” said Lim.
A resident said the park was pitch black at night before the solar-powered lights were installed.
“Drunk people used to hang around here till the late hours, which made us feel unsafe,” said a resident who only wanted to be known as Ella.
“The new gazebo also gives elderly residents a chance to relax while their family members visit the park and use its facilities,” said resident Ong Chee Meng.
“With the solar-powered lights, we can finally go to the park at night with more confidence.”
According to Ella, children in the community had also begun to play in the park since the new playground equipment had been added.
However, the residents expressed concern about safety due to the presence of an individual who is believed to be mentally unstable and has allegedly damaged community property.
Residents have said that the man was caught on closed-circuit TV camera damaging a shrine and its statue of a deity located in the park.
