RM300,000 infrastructure works to improve safety in Setapak

The road kerb at Jalan Langkawi is being upgraded, says Lai.

The drainage system at Jalan Langkawi in Danau Kota, just outside Langkawi Apartment, is being upgraded to address flash floods in the area.

Kuala Lumpur Advisory Board member Andre Lai said the drainage system had been damaged by protruding roots.

“The tree roots also blocked drainage inlets, necessitating the felling of several trees.

“The drainage upgrading project, costing about RM100,000, is undertaken by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL),” he said.

Danau Kota resident Wilson Tan said the stretch of road outside the apartment was subject to flash floods.

“When flooding occurs, traffic gets congested as vehicles slow down to navigate through the water,” he said.

“The short 300m road stretch often turns into a traffic gridlock during flash floods.”

Lai also announced that a kerb upgrading project by DBKL was currently underway in Jalan Langkawi, in front of Taman Teratai Mewah, Setapak.

“The kerb, in the middle of the road, had collapsed and needs to be fixed to prevent people from getting injured,” he said, adding that the RM200,000 upgrading work would ensure pedestrians’ safety.

Both projects are expected to be completed by the end of the month. — By JAROD LIM
