Saarani, wife among winners at Perak Sejahtera 2030 fishing event

IPOH: Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and his wife were among the winners of a fishing programme organised by the Perak state government.

Held at Taman Herba Gopeng pond, Saarani came out in the 10th placing when he caught a 2.050kg Pacu fish, while his wife clinched the third placing when she caught a catfish weighing 2.456kg.

Known as Perak Sejahtera 2030 fishing event with the Mentri Besar, it is held for the second year for the VIP category, where 120 participants including assemblymen, department heads, district officers and local council presidents participated.

Saarani received RM200 while his wife walked home with RM1,000.

“I was born in Lenggong, and nearby was Tasik Raban where I used to go fishing since young, and my interest grew.

“So it’s nothing new for me when I go out fishing,” he told reporters after the prize presentation ceremony at the park.

When asked if his wife became interested in fishing after marrying him, Saarani said “she used to follow me fishing sometimes.”

First place went to Perak Immigration director Meor Hezbullah Meor Abd Malik who caught a 6.452kg Pacu fish, while in second place was Behrang assemblywoman Salina Samsudin who caught a 2.540kg catfish.

A total of 50 winners received prizes, and also among them were state executive council members Sandrea Ng Shy Ching and Khairuddin Abu Hanipah.
