Spirit of diversity in Putrajaya

Nga meeting some of the visitors who attended the lighting-up ceremony at the Housing and Local Government Ministry office. The ministry has been decorating its lobby for the country’s major festivals since last year.

IN THE spirit of inclusivity and festive cheer, Housing and Local Government Ministry transformed its lobby in Putrajaya with an array of Christmas decorations ahead of the holiday season.

The decor featuring fairy lights and a Christmas tree adorned with seasonal ornaments aims to create a festive atmosphere while celebrating Malaysia’s multiculturalism.

At the lighting-up ceremony, a choir made up of various ethnicities performed Christmas carols, including Feliz Navidad and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.

“Some civil servants from Sabah and Sarawak expressed their delight, sharing that they had waited years to witness a government truly embracing the principles of diversity and openness, bringing the spirit of harmony and inclusion into the workplace,” said Minister Nga Kor Ming.

“At the ministry, we strongly believe that recognising and appreciating all cultural and religious festivities is key to strengthening harmony.”

During the ceremony, Nga highlighted the ministry’s ongoing commitment to celebrating all major festivals.

Since last year, the ministry has adorned its lobby for Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year, Deepavali and Christmas, showcasing the spirit of “Malaysia Truly Asia” and the motto of “unity in diversity”.

The event also attracted foreign tourists, including visitors from the United Kingdom.

Also present at the event were ministry secretary-general Datuk M. Noor Azman, PLANMalaysia director-general Datuk Alias Rameli and National Housing Department director-general Datuk KN Jayaselan alongside other officials.
