A HEALTHCARE group and a medical device company have come together to bring better treatment options to patients.

Sunway Healthcare Group (SHG) and Medtronic signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance the Centres of Excellence within the existing spine health facility at SHG’s flagship quaternary hospital, Sunway Medical Centre (SMC) in Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya in Selangor.

The MoU was signed by Medtronic vice-president and Island South-East Asia managing director Jennifer Cho and SHG managing director (hospital and healthcare operations) Dr Khoo Chow Huat.

It was witnessed by Medtronic Malaysia country director Simon Yam and SHG president Datuk Lau Beng Long.

Dr Khoo said: “We are thrilled to mark a new chapter in our journey with Medtronic, a global leader renowned for its pioneering medical technologies.

“Our collaboration signifies the enhancement of SMC’s Centres of Excellence that will focus on critical areas such as spine, neuroscience and cardiovascular medicine, and will be a beacon for training future surgeons in advanced robotic surgical techniques.”

SMC-trained consultants will share their expertise in Medtronic technologies with healthcare professionals across the region through clinical immersions, workshops and live-case observations.

The partnership will also enable collaborations in clinical research and personalised digital healthcare initiatives.

This will align with Medtronic’s aim of improving medical science and patient outcomes.

Cho highlighted the company’s dedication to innovation and market access to new technologies.

“At Medtronic, we are driven by our mission to bring technologies closer to patients and deliver better outcomes.

“This partnership with Sunway is testament to our goal to exploring new opportunities, particularly in robotics and other advanced technologies.

“By leveraging our collective strengths, we aim to focus on skill building and development of regional healthcare professionals.”

The partnership is also set to drive patient awareness programmes and enhance disease management.

Lau pointed out how the partnership would also result in evaluating and introducing the latest treatment solutions, training initiatives, and clinical trials.
