Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) marked the end of National Month with a variety of activities promoting love for the country.

The event in Taman Jaya brought to a close the city council’s initiative to mark National Day and Malaysia Day that comprised 23 programmes.

Many of these programmes engaged the younger generation, such as the two-day Merdeka Youth Camp that saw the participation of 40 students aged between 13 and 17.

The camp aimed to instil in participants values like responsibility, discipline and patriotism.

A highlight of the closing ceremony was the performance by finalists of the Merdeka poetry recitation competition.

Other activities on the final day included a colouring contest, Jejak Merdeka@PJ, Merdeka creative fashion show as well as a motivational camp with Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon.

Attendees also enjoyed food trucks, free health screenings by Kelana Jaya Medical Centre, PJ Eco Flea Market, outdoor equipment exhibitions and sales, and took home plants that were distributed for free.

With events and activities designed to foster community spirit, the National Month celebration stood as a testament to Petaling Jaya’s commitment to instilling patriotic values in its residents, MBPJ said in a press statement.
