Kepong play area repaired, made safe

Basketball and badminton courts at a residential area in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, have been resurfaced and repainted.

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng said the courts located at a neighbourhood park in Jalan Api-Api Kanan had been in bad shape.

“The courts had not been maintained for a decade and the surfaces posed a safety hazard.

“We applied to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) for a facelift but the project was only approved this year.

“The two courts have been resurfaced, levelled and now come with a fresh coat of paint,” he said during a visit to the park with residents.

Damage to the flooring included a rough playing surface that made it almost impossible to bounce a basketball.

Lim added that aside from resurfacing both courts, the project included installation of perimeter fencing and soft surface of the playground, as well as repainting of playground equipment.

“The park had not been fenced up, resulting in motorists parking their vehicles on the grassy ground and patronising food stalls opposite the park,” he said.

“Now, motorists can no longer do that.”

Lim added that while the project did not include repairs to lamps in the park, he would apply to DBKL to have them fixed.

“I will apply for several solar-powered lights so that everyone can enjoy the facilities at night,” he said.
