NO VISIT to Sarawak’s capital is complete without a stroll along Kuching Waterfront, the riverside promenade along Sungai Sarawak.

Lined with various eateries and stalls, the promenade sees many locals and tourists flocking here to soak up the atmosphere while enjoying the view.

Some street performers such as buskers and fire performers can also be found here, injecting culture and entertainment to this bustling spot.

Located across the river is the State Secretariat building.

Apart from the boat service that costs RM1 one way, visitors may also use the 335m-long Darul Hana Bridge to cross the river.

It is open daily from 6.30pm to midnight, during which it glows with LED lights.

Those keen to see landmarks along Sungai Sarawak may go on a river cruise, which takes visitors on a 90-minute tour.

The buildings include Fort Margherita, the Brooke Dockyard, the Astana, Kuching State Mosque and the residence of Sarawak’s former premier.

Cruise tickets are priced at RM70 (adults) and RM35 (children aged four to 12).

If you want to shop for souvenirs, head opposite from the waterfront to a row of shops that sell handicrafts and the sought-after Sarawak layer cake.
