Jinjang sinkhole causing residents anxious moments

A sinkhole which formed earlier this year in Jinjang Utara Tambahan in Kuala Lumpur has still not been rectified, causing residents anxious moments.

Community activist Yee Poh Ping said the sinkhole first appeared in 2021 and was repaired by a Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) contractor then.

The sinkhole at Jalan Jinjang Setia 7, which reappeared earlier this year, is more than 2m deep.

Yee expressed dismay over the recurring issue and the fact that DBKL has not done anything despite complaints.

“It is alarming that just three years after the first sinkhole was supposedly fixed, it has reappeared in the same spot, with the exact same size.

“DBKL must take immediate action before something tragic happens.

“The residents are living in constant fear as cracks around the sinkhole deepen and lengthen,” he said during a visit to the site.

Chew Yoon Moey said DBKL should not wait for a tragedy to happen before acting.

Tam Cheong pointed out the lack of concrete action despite multiple visits from DBKL.

“They have come to look at the site at least three times in the past eight months, but nothing has been done.

“All they have done is put tape to cordon off the area,” said Tam.

Frustrated by the inaction, he took matters into his own hands.

“I placed long wooden sticks into the hole to prevent cars from driving through,

“I even filled it with glass bottles to stop sewage water from flowing underneath and making it worse,” he said.

Cracks have also formed on the road and walls of houses adjacent to the sinkhole, said residents.
