Sibu eateries urged to improve hygiene

The Climbathon held at Taman Jubli Bukit Aup received good public response.

OWNERS of food premises in Sibu, Sarawak, have been told to improve the hygiene of these eateries.

Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting has expressed frustration over the lack of cleanliness in some food premises.

He emphasised the importance of maintaining hygienic and tidy environments to enhance Sibu’s image as a clean city.

“Many of our food premises are still dirty.

“The cleanliness of every food premises is important for the image of Sibu.

“SMC is now actively making Sibu a clean city,” he said during the waste-to-wealth and tree-planting programme, and Climbathon event held in Taman Jubli Bukit Aup.

Ting called on councillors and community leaders to use the Resident Councillorship System (RCS) to help improve matters.

He said the RCS’s role is to raise awareness about cleanliness among food premises within their zones, which are managed by councillors and community leaders.

Additionally, Ting called on the RCS to educate people on environmental cleanliness that included managing rubbish and pet dogs.

“This RCS is expected to be a catalyst for us to succeed in our mission.

“We really need the local community to help the local council deal with issues that are occurring around them,” he said.

Programme organising committee chairman Michelle Law said the event, which received good public response, aligned with sustainable development goals.

“This RCS aims to increase community involvement and participation in local council governance,” she added.
