More than 1,000 units available under smart rental scheme

As many as 1,287 units have been made available for rent to the public at 32 Rumah Selangorku (RSKU) projects between 2017 and 2023 under the state’s smart rental scheme, said Selangor housing and culture committee chairman Borhan Aman Shah at the state assembly.

In answer to a question from Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman Alhadad (PH-Lembah Jaya) on the latest progress of the rental programme, Borhan said the scheme's was to help those who had failed to get housing loans, to be able to rent a residence from the government at reasonable rates.

He said these people would be allowed to rent the Rumah Selangorku units for a period of between two and five years.

"Tenants will receive a 30% return at the end of the agreed period,” said Borhan.

The purchase of RSKU has been carried out in every Selangor district, with priority given to completed projects that are strategically located.

“The state government will consider the potential of RSKU projects in Lembah Jaya if there is demand," Borhan said, adding that the target was 3,000 rental scheme units until 2025.

The state’s smart rental scheme is targeted at helping those with a household income not exceeding RM5,000 per month for the low-cost home category. In the medium low-cost home category, preference will be given to those earning less than RM10,000.

To qualify, applicants or their spouses must either live or work in Selangor and are registered voters in the state.

Preference is given to applicants who do not have a residential property in Selangor.
