Newly elected KKB assemblyman Pang Sock Tao sworn-in

SHAH ALAM: Newly-elected Kuala Kubu Baharu state rep Pang Sock Tao was sworn in as a first-term assemblyman at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly today.

Swearing-in and oath-taking was carried out before speaker Lau Weng San at 10.08am.

Dressed in a mix of colourful hues of orange, yellow and purple baju kurung Kedah with a blazer, Pang, 31, pledged to serve the state and its people to the best of her ability.

Pang later said she was excited and honoured to be at the State Assembly.

"I will work hard to bring the voice of the people to the state government," she added.

The second sitting of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly, which began today, is scheduled to end on July 18.

Pang, who is married to Yap Bing Yew, 32, won the Kuala Kubu Baharu seat with a 3,869 majority on May 11 with a voter turnout of 61.51%.

She obtained 14,000 votes against Perikatan Nasional’s Khairul Azhari Saut (10,131), Independent Nyau Ke Xin (188) and Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s (152) Hafizah Zainudin.

The seat fell vacant following the death of incumbent Lee Kee Hiong of DAP on March 21 from cancer.
