Hamzah is new Penang police chief

Comm Hamzah has been with the police force for 36 years.

FORMER Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department deputy director (Operations) Comm Datuk Hamzah Ahmad has been appointed the new Penang police chief (CPO).

He takes over from former state CPO Comm Datuk Khaw Kok Chin, who is now the new Federal Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director.

The hand-over ceremony at the state police headquarters was witnessed by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

Hamzah, 58, started his career in the police force as a probationary inspector in 1988.

He also held the post of Bukit Aman Federal Reserve Unit commander from 2018 to 2021.

IGP Razarudin, in his speech, congratulated Comm Hamzah on the promotion, adding that the Sik-born senior cop’s vast experience in various police departments would further strengthen Penang police force in safeguarding the state’s security.

“The appointment was made after considering his credibility and leadership capability to undertake the entrusted responsibilities,” he said.

“I am confident with 36 years of experience in the force, he will bring the state police to another level of excellence.”

He also congratulated Comm Khaw, who was appointed as Penang CPO last May 12 for his excellent service.

Comm Khaw thanked the Penang police personnel and officers for their cooperation throughout his 10 months in the contingent.

He also thanked Penang Governor Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak and Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow for entrusting him to safeguard the state.

He expressed his full confidence in Comm Hamzah’s experience in the force to bring the Penang contingent to greater heights.

He also urged the personnel to extend their fullest support to Comm Hamzah. – By IMRAN HILMY
