Campaign offers free food packs, vouchers, special promotions

HYPERMARKET chain Mydin is making this Raya season more joyful through initiatives to lessen customers’ financial burden, including contests offering attractive prizes.

Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd managing director Datuk Ameer Ali Mydin said the initiatives, themed “Happening Raya”, was a way of giving back to society.

He said this included promotions on home and kitchen products, home decor, clothing and other items.

He said one of the events would be “Jelajah Iftar Ala Madinah” throughout Ramadan, where Mydin would distribute 11,000 free food packs at seven of its stores.

“There will also be several contests, including one where customers can win vouchers worth RM3,000 each and redeem them for furniture at Courts Mammoth,” he said.

Ameer Ali announced this at the launch of the “Happening Raya” campaign, launched by Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad at the Mydin store in Seremban 2, Negri Sembilan.

Ameer Ali said Mydin would also collaborate with nearly 50 companies to raise some RM250,000 for charity.

He said the funds raised from the sale of selected products would be given to the B40 group identified by the Welfare Department (JKM).

“We will give them new clothes and food baskets so they can have a better Raya,” he said.

Due to the weather, Mydin would hold indoor Ramadan bazaars at its bigger outlets, Ameer Ali added.

“There will be more than 100 items on sale for buka puasa, and the prices will be based on the Rahmah menu so that everyone can afford it,” he said.

He added that 45,000 packs of bubur lambuk would be distributed to customers at selected stores throughout Ramadan.

Shoppers can expect a cashback, too, he said.

“We will work with our digital app partners Boost and SPayLater to offer a RM5 cashback when someone spends a minimum of RM50.”

Noraini commended Mydin for its efforts to ease the burden of the people and hoped more firms and non-governmental groups would follow suit.

“It is heartening to note that the ministry is not alone in helping the needy,” she said.

JKM, she said, had identified and visited B40 families in need of new clothes and household items.

“I hope that this will further strengthen family bonds and empower the agenda of building a Madani nation,” she added.
