THE popular Bukit Broga hiking trail in Semenyih, Selangor will be closed from Monday (March 18), following a fire that engulfed the hill last night.

The Selangor Forestry Department, in a statement, said that the temporary closure would affect the hiking trail.

“The trail is closed until further notice,” it said in a directive from the department director.

According to earlier reports, the forest fire at Bukit Broga, which began late Sunday (March 17) evening, was fully extinguished early Monday morning.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail said the fire-fighting operation was concluded at about 3.30am after the fire was fully extinguished at 2.30am.

He said a total of 28 officers and personnel from three fire stations were involved in the operation.

"The fire was at a 2ha-area at the peak of Broga Hill before spreading to other parts of the hill due to wind," he said in a statement on Monday.
