Students and teachers of SMK Sacred Heart in Sibu, Sarawak are urged to embrace technology in the digitalisation era.
The school’s board of management vice-chairman Tan Sri Clement Hii said the skills demanded of them now were very different from the skills required in the old days.
“Whether you become lawyers or doctors, you need a basic understanding of technology like digitalisation, big data and artificial intelligence,” said Hii at the Sibu school’s Speech Day, which he has sponsored since 2004.
As for teachers, it was vital for them to use creative ways to bring their message across in the classroom, said Hii, who is also executive chairman of the HCK Group.
He reminded both teachers and students not to forget the importance of communication.
“Even with technology, we must never forget to communicate with honesty and a sincere purpose to enrich and educate.
“This is a power that no technology can replace, although technology can amplify our delivery process,” he said.
SMK Sacred Heart principal David Teo said the school would continue its vision of preparing its students for a rapidly changing world.
He said the good results of their 2022 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) showcased the dedication of both teachers and students.
Teo also highlighted the school’s commitment to a well-rounded education, evident in their students’ co-curricular achievements.
