GRATITUDE filled the hearts of 485 Subang Jaya senior citizens who collected Jom Shopping vouchers under Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE).

The SMUE programme by the Selangor government aims to improve the quality of life of senior citizens in need with yearly shopping vouchers of RM150.

Retired airline employee Michael Seshasahi, 64, said it warmed his heart knowing that the Selangor government cared for senior citizens.

“I am thankful for the voucher. I will use it to get groceries like rice, milk, sugar and vegetables,” he said after collecting the voucher at a hall in a shopping complex in USJ 1, Subang Jaya.

Retired human resource manager Grace Long, 73, was glad that senior citizens received the financial assistance.

“I use this voucher to buy dry groceries. I am thankful that the amount given has been increased from RM100 to RM150,” she said.

Subang Jaya assemblyman Michelle Ng said the vouchers were meant to support and care for senior citizens in the constituency.

“Citizens above age 60, having lived in Selangor for at least 15 years and Selangor voters with household income of RM3,000 and below are eligible,” she said.

SMUE vouchers can only be claimed once a year, for use at designated stores.

At the event, 260 constituents also came to renew their details for Iltizam Selangor Sihat, a health card which people can take to a panel clinic for basic health treatment.

Costs will be deducted from the card.

Another 95 registered their details under Central Database Hub (Padu), a Federal Government initiative aimed at improving policy planning and resource distribution efficiency.
