KUALA LUMPUR: Gamuda Bhd
has secured an A$880mil (RM2.54bil) contract as part of a consortium to design and build the future Parramatta metro station under the Sydney Metro West project in Australia.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Gamuda said Sydney Metro awarded the Parramatta Integrated Station Development project to the Riverside Link Consortium, comprising its wholly-owned Australian units Gamuda Engineering Pty Ltd and Gamuda (Australia) Pty Ltd, together with MTR Corporation (Australia) Pty Ltd.
The A$880mil contract covers the design and construction of the Parramatta metro station and associated station infrastructure, with Gamuda Engineering holding an 80% participation and MTR Australia the remaining 20%.
Works are scheduled to commence on Sept 4, 2026, with completion targeted for 2032.
The project also comes with development rights for four integrated developments above and adjacent to the future station, comprising commercial, retail and residential uses.
Gamuda Australia and MTR Australia will participate equally in the development rights component, which is expected to be undertaken in phases after Sydney Metro West opens, subject to planning approvals and final contractual and funding arrangements.
Gamuda said the latest award builds on its involvement in the Sydney Metro West project, including the Western Tunnelling Package and the Stations Package West covering five stations.
The Parramatta project will be the sixth station along the Metro West alignment to be delivered by Gamuda Engineering Australia.
The group said the project also provides an opportunity to combine its infrastructure and property development capabilities through Gamuda Land's participation in the development of the station precinct.
It added that Parramatta's position as an emerging second central business district for Sydney and the development of Western Sydney are expected to support longer-term demand for residential and commercial properties surrounding the station.
The project is expected to contribute positively to Gamuda's revenue and earnings over the duration of the project.
Trading in Gamuda's securities was halted from 9am on Friday, Sept 4, in relation to the announcement and resumed at 10am.
The counter slid seven sen, or 1.5%, to RM4.60 as at 10.15am.
