FLood mitigation works at Bukit Lima Forest Park and also Kampung Sentosa will be completed by mid-March next year.

As the village and popular green lung are located in the same area in Sibu, the works will be done simultaneously.

Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng said the two projects were already about 20% completed.

“The work has progressed a bit faster than expected,” said Chieng during his recent visit to Kampung Sentosa.

He said Sarawak government was allocating RM21.4mil for the first phase of the projects.

The amount was handed over to the contractor in mid-May 2023.

“Sarawak Drainage and Irrigation Department is executing the two projects.

“The work includes constructing a 1,630m-long cement ditch plus upgrading and expanding a 5,200m-long earthen ditch.

“Another earthen ditch about 950m long will be constructed,” he said.

According to Chieng, the village was in a low-lying area with poor drainage system and floods easily occurred following heavy rain.

“The mitigation project will improve the drainage system.

“We hope the locals will no longer have to put up with stagnant water and flooding after rain,” he said. — By ANDY CHUA
