Latin Women’s Association of Malaysia (LWAM) has pledged to promote more awareness of breast cancer, through its RM158,000 donation to Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia (BCWA).

LWAM media officer Graciely O’Hara said the funds, raised through LWAM’s XIV Latin Charity Ball in Kuala Lumpur, would be used to support two BCWA projects.

“One of them is purchasing a Mitsubishi Triton VGT to facilitate BCWA’s outreach to rural and remote areas for breast cancer clinical trials and prevention talks.

“Another project is to renovate a sewing room dedicated to crafting temporary prostheses for breast cancer surgery patients.

“The funds will also be used to buy sewing machines and needed materials,” she said.

She added that the charity ball and donation exemplified the passionate commitment of “women supporting women” in the fight against breast cancer.

Expressing LWAM’s gratitude to sponsors and contributors, O’Hara said their support had embodied the spirit of solidarity and empowerment.

“LWAM would like to extend its gratitude to all sponsors, supporters and contributors who have played a vital role in advancing breast cancer awareness and making an impact on the lives of women affected by the disease.

“Together, we stand united in promoting awareness, advocating for early detection and supporting those bravely confronting breast cancer,” she said.

LWAM presented the cheque to BCWA at its office in Bangunan Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
