New premises to provide cancer patients support during their recovery process

CANCER patients and their caregivers now have a supportive environment where they can find information and a host of activities that can help in their healing journey at Rumah KanWork.The centre was launched by Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin.

“Cancer does not see age. Those who are diagnosed (with cancer) and their caregivers need support to face the challenges, which is key towards the healing process,” she said on KanWork’s formation.

She also gave credit to all the donors, individuals and institutions for their part in the formation of Rumah KanWork.

“I hope KanWork can benefit from this house to provide support in the cancer patients’ recovery process,” she said.

She also urged the public to continuously show their support to KanWork.

At the event, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, who is also the Royal Patron of KanWork, launched Dari Dapur KanWork containing recipes for 30 healthy dishes.

The recipes were compiled from the experiences of cancer patients and survivors, their caretakers and others from the KanWork community.

On behalf of KanWork, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin received a mock cheque for RM150,000 by Yayasan Waqaf Malaysia, Perbadanan Wakaf Selangor, and the implementation coordination unit in the Prime Minister’s Department.

Each organisation contributed RM50,000 to Rumah KanWork.

Persatuan Kanser KanWork president Dr Maznah Muhamad was very grateful for the contribution and welcomed more donations.

She said the launch was special because 18 years after KanWork’s inception, “we finally have a place of our own”.

KanWork is a non-governmental organisation that provides support to those who are affected by cancer through team support, carrying out hospital and house visits and by providing Helpline support (1-800-22-8672).

KanWork has carried out numerous educational and awareness programmes for the community to prevent cancer and encourage a healthy lifestyle.
