SUBANG Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) has joined up with the Subang Jaya assemblyman’s office to sponsor 38 3D mammogram screenings worth more than RM14,000 for women in Subang Jaya, especially those from underserved communities.

This collaboration is to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October and the hospital’s 38th anniversary.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Malaysian women.

This initiative was launched in 2020 by SJMC to provide equal opportunity to healthcare while emphasising preventive care.

In a statement, SJMC chief executive officer Bryan Lin said that early screening truly saved lives.

“For the third consecutive year, we are honoured to collaborate with Subang Jaya assemblyman Michelle Ng on this initiative to benefit the women in our community.”

Studies have found that patients with breast cancer have more than an 85% five-year survival rate when the cancer is detected early, compared to a 19% five-year survival rate when detected at Stage 4.

The 3D mammograms use the latest technology to provide a 3D view of breast tissue to detect abnormalities.

This enhances the chances of detecting breast cancer at its earliest and most treatable stages, potentially improving outcomes.

“SJMC’s contribution ensures access to life-saving mammograms and also raises awareness of early screening,“ said Ng.

In addition to this CSR initiative, SJMC has provided 300 Human Papillomavirus PCR self-sampling swabs to women in the Subang Jaya community for early detection of cervical cancer.

On the national level, the hospital has collaborated with Health Ministry and Malaysian Society of Anaesthesiologists on the Global Surgery Initiative (GSI)).

This is a public-private partnership to provide access to safe and affordable surgical and anaesthesia care in underserved areas of Malaysia.

SJMC’s team of doctors and nurses have volunteered in Sarawak to perform more than 70 operations in two missions.

SJMC was recently certified by Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) International as a Centre of Excellence in Malaysia for its oncology services.

It is the first private medical centre in Asia-Pacific to receive this recognition.
