New road in Sentul to ease peak-hour congestion

A NEW road cutting across Kampung Chubadak in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur is expected to cut commute time by up to 30 minutes for locals heading to the city centre during peak hours.

The two-lane dual-way road measuring 130m links Taman Dato Senu 3 with Jalan Kampung Bandar Dalam.

It was opened officially on Saturday (Oct 7) by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and developer Melati Ehsan Group (MEG).

The road project was a condition attached to the development order issued by DBKL to the developer for its projects in the area.

Mayor Datuk Seri Kamarulzaman Mat Salleh said that DBKL received requests from the Batu and Wangsa Maju MPs for the road to be built to help ease congestion due to rapid development in the area.

"The developer has built some 2,500 units (in highrises) here, with three more development phases being planned," he said at an event to declare the new road open.

He added that the stretch was also equipped with a 1.5m-wide walkway on both sides and solar-powered streetlights.

MEG chief executive officer Datuk Leong Chee Kian said the project cost RM5.5mil for land acquisition and RM3mil for construction.

A DBKL spokesman said the site chosen for the road was previously privately-owned idle land.

Batu MP P. Prabakaran, who was also present, said the road would benefit more than 50,000 road users daily.

"It will benefit not only (the people) in Sentul, but also those from other parts of the city travelling through the area," he said.

Also present was Wangsa Maju MP Zahir Hassan.
