TEACHERS and students of University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) will no longer have to fly to China to acquire Chinese ecommerce vocational skills.
This has been made possible following a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Guangdong AIB Polytechnic (GDAIB).
UTS vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid said the purpose of the MOA was to jointly set up the Chinese Cross Border Ecommerce Study Centre at UTS so they could train teachers and students on those skills locally.
“Rather than sending our students to China every year, teachers from GDAIB can provide training at the study centre here,” said Prof Khairuddin after the MOA signing ceremony.
Prof Khiruddin added that with the setting up of the centre, UTS not only could provide training for their staff and students but the public too, including the private sector and government agencies, in its effort to further expand the collaboration.
He said as GDAIB specialised in vocational and hands-on approaches, it would offer added advantage to UTS.
“We will complement our students with our own academic content so they can have the experience in not just local business but also international business,” he said.
He added that the collaboration would be an added advantage to UTS students as they could undergo their internship in a foreign company through the partnership.
“Our students can enter the private sector in China through our partner. This is good exposure for our students,” he said.
Also present at the ceremony was GDAIB vice-president Prof Luo Nanlin.
