Beauty firm ordered to refund client RM195 for 40-minute treatment

Nurlinda ended up paying more for her facial package.

A CUSTOMER unhappy about having to pay more than the advertised price for facial services will see a refund after filing a case at the Johor Consumer Claims Tribunal.

Nurlinda Mohmad Joha said she found the facial therapy package, advertised for RM55, on a social media account of a beauty consultation and services company in Johor Baru.

The claimant paid a RM20 booking fee online on Oct 12 last year, for the treatment eight days later.

Nurlinda, a confinement service provider, said the advertised package comprised eight procedures: milk cleansing, deep cleansing, scrub, steamer, hydradermabrasion, Omega light, UV protection and a head-and-shoulder massage.

She said the advertisement claimed, among others, that the procedures would clean clogged pores, remove blackheads and whiteheads and produce collagen for healthy skin.

The appointment was for 2.30pm and she arrived 15 minutes early.

However, the claimant said she was only ushered to meet a consultant at 4pm.

Instead of getting the booked treatment, Nurlinda said she was asked to sign up for a RM3,000 package which included the eight procedures as well as additional facial and body treatments.

“I declined and instead of charging me RM55, the bill came to RM250 which I paid via online transfer,” she said when met outside the Tribunal in Menara Ansar, Johor Baru.

Nurlinda added that she was dissatisfied with the treatment as it lasted for only 40 minutes.

She was also unhappy that only seven procedures were done instead of eight as advertised.

“Milk cleansing was missing from the list and the therapy should have lasted at least 60 to 90 minutes, based on similar treatments I experienced elsewhere,” she said.

Nurlida decided to file the case with the Johor Consumer Claims Tribunal as the respondent declined to entertain her request for a refund.

Tribunal president Hafez Zalkapli ordered the respondent to refund RM195 to the claimant within two weeks.
