‘Keep back lanes clear’

EATERY operators under Iskandar Puteri City Council’s (MBIP) jurisdiction are reminded to keep back lanes clean and free of clutter.

Iskandar Puteri mayor Datuk Haffiz Ahmad said back lanes of shop lots or commercial buildings should not be turned into cooking and washing areas.

The city council, he said, would first issue notices to those found cooking and washing in back lanes, failing which legal action would be taken.

“These include penalties and revoking their business licences,” Haffiz told StarMetro.

He said some vehicle owners even parked in the lanes to avoid paying MBIP parking charges.

Haffiz said the city council would also take down illegal structures at the front and back lanes of shops and commercial buildings.

“You need to submit the building plan and get approval from us first before proceeding with any renovation work.”

The back lanes, he said, should be free from clutter so that rubbish lorries and fire engines could pass through in case of an emergency.

Similarly, Haffiz said restaurant operators planning to sublet their outlets should submit their applications to MBIP’s licensing unit.

“You can turn your outlet into a food court but there are rules and you can be fined up to RM1,000 (for any infringement).”

He said only two sub-operators were allowed for a food court located in an intermediate lot and five for an end lot.

He added that operators were allowed to place tables and chairs at parking bays in front of their eateries only after 6pm.
