THE Selangor legislative assembly has passed the Selangor Children Development Policy and Action Plan motion, says its Speaker Ng Suee Lim.
"The motion will be examined by the coming state government term or at Federal level.
"It serves as an input or reference for the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry when they draft any policies on children," he said.
Ng added that seven assemblymen had debated the policy.
"This means that in Selangor, we take into consideration all aspects – from socio-economy to culture, including senior citizen and children development issues.
"Selangor is a people-focused government that cares about its people's problems and I hope that in the future, the government will continue to take care of their rights and welfare.
"I felt pity that I have received a lot of cases of stateless children and this can be very psychologically stressful for them.
"We hope that we can bring change to this problem," he told reporters when met at the Bangunan SUK, Shah Alam, Selangor on Friday (March 17).
Ng also shared that he had been through ups and downs in his five-year term as Selangor speaker.
"Some of the experiences are invaluable to me such as the Covid-19 pandemic and movement control order.
"I treat them as challenges that helped me grow and memorable experiences that may contribute to future portfolios given to me," he said.
The Selangor legislative assembly, which had been sitting since March 13, was adjourned sine die on Friday.
