FRUSTRATED residents want the authorities to consider building a “missing link” or new road to solve the bad traffic congestion on Jalan 2/17 in Kepong.
Traffic congestion became worse last year when Jalan 15/34C was connected to Jalan 2/17, giving motorists a shortcut from MRR2 to Jalan Kepong.
Community activist Yee Poh Ping said residents had complained of the unbearable morning congestion.
“I cannot imagine what the situation will be like when all the housing development projects are completed,” he said.
Yee claimed that there would be at least 20,000 housing units in surrounding areas that would be ready for occupancy in the next five years.
He suggested that a plot of government land on one side of Jalan 2/17, about 150m from the exit into Jalan Kepong, be converted into a road connecting to West Road thereby providing another exit to Jalan Kepong.
“The land is currently being used to store old vehicles,” he noted.
“I also learned that there were plans to use the land for a road project but it did not materialise.
“I have written to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to study the feasibility of constructing this ‘missing link’”, he added.
Fadasons Villa Residents Association chairman Wong Foon Yew said that with the influx of vehicles on Jalan 2/17, a 2km drive could take up to an hour.
“DBKL needs to look for ways to manage the traffic better,” he said.
City Hall has yet to comment at press time.
