UNIVERSITI Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Arts and Social Science Faculty’s Assoc Prof Dr Cheah Phaik Kin has received a letter of appreciation from Perak police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri.

Cheah, a Lance Corporal in the Royal Malaysia Police Volunteer Reserve (PVR), received the letter along with 18 other full-time police officers during the Perak police chief’s monthly assembly at the state police contingent headquarters in Ipoh.

Also present were Perak Special Branch Senior Assistant Commissioner Shazeli Kahar and Perak Crime Investigation Department head Senior Assistant Commissioner Luqman Abdul Rahman along with heads of department, senior police officers and civilian police staff.

Mohd Yusri, in his speech, praised Cheah for her efforts in researching Malaysia’s police volunteer reserve.

“We are also proud to have Dr Cheah represent the police force in the international arena,” he said, referring to her recent presentations of her scholarly work in the United Kingdom.

“Her dedication and commitment to serve and conduct research on the PVR since she entered the force in 2014 have been fruitful.

“We appreciate the pool of talent that PVR officers bring to the force.

“In Perak, there are about 429 PVR officers.

“They are from diverse backgrounds and have many talents.

“It is indeed a privilege to have a strong PVR force that can contribute and complement our efforts to fight and prevent crime.

“Polis dan masyarakat berpisah tiada (Police and the community are inseparable),” he added.

Mohd Yusri also expressed his gratitude to all police officers in the state for their efficiency and contributions in maintaining law and order in Perak, especially during the 15th General Election which took place in November.

Meanwhile, Cheah said the letter of appreciation came as a surprise.

“I am grateful to the police force for supporting me in my research efforts, without which it would not have been possible.

“Appreciation from Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri also signifies his recognition and acknowledgement of all the service, sacrifices and contributions by my fellow PVR officers in Perak,” she said.
