Kepong Entrepreneurs Park shopowners can finally get their strata titles from the Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur Lands and Mines Office (PPTGWP).

For the government to release the documents, all 600 unit owners will need to settle their quit rent and penalty owed by developer Sumana Jaya Sdn Bhd, which amounts to RM1,182,422.

Kepong Entrepreneurs Park Association of Shop Owners advisor Yee Poh Ping said after years of dealing with the issue, the owners received the good news in September.

“We have been working very hard the last 15 years to get the strata titles from the government.

“The government should protect the interests of property owners whose strata title issues have not been sorted out for more than 30 years in Malaysia.

“It is unfair for the current owners to bear the loss and penalty.

“If the government reviews the law and regulations against landowners, things would go smoother,” said Yee.

Kepong Entrepreneurs Park Factory Owners Association treasurer Chan Sai Kow, 78, said he bought the property second-hand.

He has owned the property for more than 20 years and the strata title issue always bothered him.

“There are still many steps to go through before we get our title.

“Yee helped us navigate the complicated process all these years. It was a long journey.

“Hopefully everything will go smoothly now and all the unit owners will get their strata titles,” said Chan.
