He may have lost his election deposit but the Independent candidate who contested the Petaling Jaya seat in the 15th General Election (GE15) say he will continue to champion the concerns of the B40 group in Desa Mentari.
Dr KJ John said he would still fulfil his pledge to the community which he got to know better during his campaigning period.
“I promised the residents of Desa Mentari that I would visit them every six months until their voices and cries are heard especially by the Federal Government.
“Some of us seek to help by giving towards charity projects.
“How many spend at least a few hours with anyone from the B40 community within our cities?
“My third was a dialogue with a group of them, which more than opened my eyes,” he said.
Dr John also questioned the approval process for the resettlement project and highlighted the lack of basic facilities at Desa Mentari.
“It is eight blocks of high-rise flats without much in terms of basic living amenities.
“Each unit has only three rooms and many have more than six occupants each,” he added.
Dr John lost his deposit as he only received 461 votes.
Barisan Nasional-MCA candidate Chew Hian Tat, who also lost the Petaling Jaya seat, said he accepted and respected the decision of the voters in P105 (the Petaling Jaya constituency).
“Although we had worked hard to serve the people, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, regrettably, we still lost the fight this round.
“A big thank you to my team who had worked very hard since nomination day and sorry to my supporters for not being able to become your MP,” said Chew.
He called on the new MP Lee Chean Chung (Pakatan Harapan-PKR) to keep his promises and always be ready to serve the people.
Despite losing, Datuk Theng Book of Perikatan Nasional-Bersatu was happy with his result as he garnered the second-highest vote of 32,736.
Lee won the Petaling Jaya seat with a majority of 50,575 votes.
