TO mark World Mental Health Day, mentally challenged children were given the chance to be models on the catwalk.

A total of 36 students from Real Schools Cheras Campus visited the Selangor and Federal Territory Association for the Mentally Handicapped (SAMH) in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur.

The students played games and interacted with the special children from SAMH.

The highlight of the day was a mini fashion show where the students walked hand in hand with the special children on stage, with the hope that it would boost their confidence.

The students also presented a donation to SAMH principal V. Krishnaveni.

The special children were later given gifts and treated to a delicious lunch.

In a statement, school counsellor Pinky Kaur said she wanted to emphasise the importance of raising children to be caring and empathetic.

“You cannot learn emotional literacy by facing a screen, hence activities like this,” she added.

Real Schools also organises a monthly charity programme, “Random Acts of Kindness” to instil values of compassion, benevolence and responsibility in their students.
