PENANG will be hosting the Penang Economic Summit (PES) 2022 from Oct 20- 21 with some 300 local and international business leaders, entrepreneurs and policy makers expected to attend the event.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the theme of the summit “The Post Pandemic Economic Reset” was very much in line with the Penang2030 vision.
“Our concerted effort to reboot the state’s economy and revive our various sectors is now being carried out in full,” he said during his speech at Komtar.
Chow said PES 2022 would serve as an important catalyst to the Penang2030 vision and an opportunity to showcase the best of the state.
As Penang celebrates the 50th anniversary of its industrialisation this year, he said the state government was determined to work closely with industries and civil society to propel the state into a high-income economy underscored by innovation, digitalisation and high quality of life.
PES 2022, which will be held at Setia SPICE Convention Centre, will discuss and address Penang’s path for the next decade and will also address the critical challenges to economic growth in Asia.
Organised by Enterprise Asia and Penang Institute, the summit features speakers and panellists who will talk about opportunities and new growth drivers for businesses in Asia, while exploring options for continued growth for Penang into the 2030s and beyond.
Speakers at the summit include Chow, who will deliver the opening address, state transport and infrastructure committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari and state entrepreneurial development, trade and industry committee chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain.
Other speakers include Intel Malaysia managing director AK Chong, Chief Minister of Penang’s special investment adviser Datuk Seri Lee Kah Choon, InvestPenang chief executive officer Datuk Loo Lee Lian, Digital Penang chief executive officer Tony Yeoh and many others.
Also present during the announcement were Enterprise Asia chairman Datuk William Ng, and Penang Institute executive director Datuk Dr Ooi Kee Beng.
Ooi called for global collaborations and building trust among the nations through PES 2022.
“We cannot recover alone. We have to recover together, within national borders and beyond national borders, and we cannot recover if we do not take full advantage of the latest technologies to provide us with sustainability and efficiency,” he said.
He added that resetting economically would require people to know what the rest of the world was doing, and to know the strengths and weaknesses and coming together.
Penang Governor Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak will grace the event during the gala dinner of the summit.
