New medical centre to be built in Segamat

The new medical centre will be built on a 1.96ha land in Bandar IOI Segamat.

A SEVEN-storey hospital is set to be built in the Segamat district and expected to open its doors to the public in four years.

The new medical centre by Oriental Holdings Bhd (OHB), estimated at RM150mil, would be built on a newly purchased 1.96ha land in Bandar IOI Segamat, Johor.

The centre dubbed Oriental Medical Segamat has a 150-bed capacity and will be OHB’s second hospital venture following Oriental Melaka Straits Medical Centre (OMSMC) in Klebang, Melaka.

OMSMC and Oriental Medical Segamat managing director Dr Tan Hui Ling said the facility, slated to open in 2026, offered a wide range of medical and surgical specialist care.

“This includes anaesthesiology and critical care, general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatric, ophthalmology, orthopaedic, otorhinolaryngology (ear, nose, throat, head and neck surgery), urology, internal medicine, cardiology, gastroenterology, nephrology and geriatric.

“These two hospitals will serve as a medical hub and spoke model, complementing each other to provide affordable and high-quality healthcare,” she said in a statement, adding that it was a step taken to expand OHB’s reach to the northern Johor region.

“Oriental Medical Segamat will be located in Bandar IOI Segamat’s east precinct,” said Dr Tan.

“The strategic location is approximately a 10-minute drive from the town centre, providing good accessibility to the Segamat district, which has a population of around 200,000,” she said, adding that the new hospital would be a subsidiary hospital to OMSMC.

Established in 2015, OMSMC is a Malaysian Society for Quality in Health-accredited tertiary care hospital with a 300-bed capacity. It is also OHB’s flagship hospital.

Besides the hospitals, OHB’s healthcare segment has ventured into lifestyle retail pharmacy.

The company has pharmacies in Klebang, Melaka and Bagan, Penang. Another branch will open soon in Segamat, Johor.
