THE British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (BMCC) recently announced the winners of the 2022 Business Excellence Awards at Sunway Resort in Sunway City, Petaling Jaya.

The third edition of the event recognises outstanding results achieved by corporations of UK and Malaysia across a range of categories.

The event is supported by British High Commission Kuala Lumpur and Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida).

This year, the event saw 52 nominations – the highest number since its inception – across six categories, including two new ones: the Outstanding ESG Award, and the UK-Malaysia Education Institutional Partnership Award.

The Diversity and Inclusion category received 11 nominations, which is the highest, showing that businesses both in the UK and Malaysia are recognising the importance of an inclusive culture and diverse workforce.

Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba, who was the guest of honour, said: “I am proud to see that the Business Excellence Awards is not only celebrating business achievements but have included categories on Outstanding ESG as well as Diversity and Inclusion, which are crucial to the sustainability of businesses in today’s world, especially in light of the Covid-19 pandemic over the last 30 months and effects of climate change.

“More importantly, there is a category on Technology and Innovation which encourages businesses, both from the UK and Malaysia, to showcase new and disruptive technology as well as innovations that enable them to thrive further.

“I believe the disruptive application of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) are the catalysts that will provide solutions to the problems we face in the world today.”

BMCC chief executive officer Jennifer Lopez said, “I would like to congratulate all the winners and nominees across all six categories on their outstanding achievements”.

Winners which received pewter awards by Royal Selangor were Owen Mumford Malaysia (UK-Malaysia Business of the Year); Astrazeneca & Sunway University (UK-Malaysia Partnership of the Year); Lancaster University UK (Malaysia Education Institutional Partnership); Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia (Diversity and Inclusion); Arup Malaysia (Technology and Innovation); and Sime Darby Property (Outstanding ESG).

The gala dinner was attended by over 400 people who enjoyed a three-course dinner served by the first-ever international branch of Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill Sunway City Kuala Lumpur.

Also present were UK Prime Minister’s trade envoy to Malaysia Richard Graham and British High Commissioner to Malaysia Charles Hay.
