Fisheries and forestry departments join hands in conservation of endangered fish


The Betta fish breeding programme is a new initiative at the Betta Fish Conservation and Exhibition Centre in Ayer Hitam, Muar.

SOME 450 betta fish were released into the wild as part of a species conservation effort by Johor Fisheries Department and Johor Forestry Department.

Johor Forestry Department director Datuk Salim Aman said the department had initiated a conservation programme with the Betta Fish Conservation and Exhibition Centre in Ayer Hitam, Muar.“Betta fish is a critically endangered species as more of its natural habitat, namely peat swamps, have been destroyed and used for development.
