Construction of service centre brought to a halt

TAMAN Puncak Jalil (PUJ) residents were surprised to see a car service centre being constructed in their Seri Kembangan neighbourhood.

The project along Persiaran Puncak Jalil is located near a rainwater retention pond and sandwiched between two residential areas.

“We noticed construction work at the site last month and lodged complaints with Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ),” said Taman Puncak Jalil Residents Association (Taman PUJ RA) president Zainuddin Zainal.

“MBSJ informed me that they had issued a stop-work order as the project was carried out without the city council’s approval.

“However, the contractor continued with construction work.

“I was informed that on Feb 9, MBSJ had issued another stop-work order and its enforcement team sealed off the site.”

Based on a master plan for Taman PUJ, Zainuddin said the site was earmarked for a petrol station.

“A signboard indicating that a petrol station would be built was placed at the site two years ago and residents welcomed it.”

Zainuddin said residents were against having a car service centre as they felt such a business should not be located near a residential area, adding that the PUJ 3 commercial centre would be a more suitable location.

“Taman PUJ residents hope MBSJ won’t issue any approvals for the construction of a car service centre in our neighbourhood,” said Zainuddin.

When contacted, MBSJ Corporate and Strategic Management Department deputy director Azfarizal Abdul Rashid confirmed that the project and construction of the building did not have the council’s approval.

“MBSJ took enforcement action in accordance with existing laws and guidelines,” he said.
