Road system change in Puncak Jalil to ensure public safety amid pipe works

Traffic flow is chaotic and dangerous at PUJ 3 due to diversions to enable pipe installation works for the LRAL2 project.

IMPROVEMENTS will be made to the traffic flow at the road closures and diversions in PUJ 3, Taman Puncak Jalil, Selangor, following a fatal accident there on Saturday.

Residents and motorists said the road diversions for pipe installation works for the Langat 2 water treatment plant and distribution system (LRAL2) project have proven to be dangerous.

Taman Puncak Jalil Residents Association (PUJRA) president Zainuddin Zainal said the closures and diversions around the PUJ 3 commercial centre, which started on Feb 17, must be improved.

“There are insufficient signage and notices to alert motorists.

“In just two days since the project started, it has caused many near misses and a motorcyclist died in an accident on Saturday.

“More incidents like this are bound to happen if nothing is done,” he said, adding that the pipe installation works were expected to take two months to complete.

Zainuddin also questioned why there had been no engagement with stakeholders before implementation of the diversions.

“The contractor would have had meetings with Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) but none with us, especially for such an important issue,” he said.

To address the matter, a briefing was held on Sunday between stakeholders, the project contractor, MBSJ representatives and Kinrara assemblyman Ng Sze Han.

“As an immediate measure, more flagmen will be placed at crucial locations to manage traffic flow.

“I have also asked the contractor to reassess the traffic management plans to include some of the residents’ feedback.

“Those that are feasible will be implemented with immediate effect once approved by MBSJ,” Ng said.

Ng, who is also Selangor local government, public transport and new village development committee chairman, said the contractor had also been asked to complete the project before Ramadan.

At the start of Ramadan, expected to fall on April 2, traffic in the area will be busier because of the presence of a bazaar.

“I hope residents will bear with the temporary diversion so that the construction works can be completed as soon as possible,” added Ng.
