Rivers turn milky white


The polluted river water flowing under the drain.

WHEN the upriver stretches of Sungai Pinang and Sungai Jelutong in Penang became milky white, many alarmed residents alerted the authorities and triggered the fastest pollution investigation in recent years.

In less than 24 hours, the source of the pollution was traced to a contractor doing horizontal drilling to lay underground cables along Jalan Trengganu and Jalan Hamilton in George Town.
