THE Selangor government will conduct mass Covid-19 community testing in the state between May 8 and June 10.
Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said in a statement that the testing would be fully funded by the state and would be done in phases, covering all 56 state constituencies starting with Kajang and Semenyih on May 8.
He said the state recorded a high daily number of Covid-19 positive cases in the past weeks.
The worrying factor, he said, was that those infected were silent carriers and had appeared healthy without any symptoms.
“This group is worrying because they will be able to spread and infect the high-risk groups.
“To kick off the Covid-19 outbreak mitigation phase in the state, the state public health action committee will implement a surveillance programme by taking active measures for case detection, ” he said on Tuesday (May 4).
Amirudin said the programme enabled the city dwellers with risks of contracting Covid-19, such as those who have had contact with Covid-19 patients and having symptoms, as well as those worried about their status, to get tested.
“I hope the city dwellers will be proactive and get tested at the designated places as scheduled across the state, and play their role in curbing the spread of Covid-19, ” he said.
