THE state government has added another RM4.57mil into the Covid-19 economic stimulus package, bringing the overall total to RM155.57mil.
Under the new Pakej Bantuan Rakyat Pulau Pinang 2.1, the state has targeted six groups to be assisted in terms of cash flow and reducing their operation cost during the recovery movement control order (MCO) period.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who announced the incentive, said the first group would be 1,142 farmers who would receive RM400 worth of agriculture products which would be channelled through the Agriculture Department.
“The incentive is for crops affected during the pandemic and the overall amount would be RM456,800,” he told a press conference at Komtar yesterday.
“We are also giving out a one-off incentive of RM500 to 439 canteen operators at all registered schools in Penang.
“The total amount of RM219,500 will be given through the state Education Department and the Islamic Affairs Department,” he added. Chow said the third category would be a one-off payment of RM500 to event management companies involving some 100 entrepreneurs.
The companies must apply online through the official state government’s portal to enjoy this benefit.
“There’s also a one-off payment of RM1,000 to be given to 1,771 non-Islamic houses of worship.”
Chow added that a total of 3,996 organisations and associations registered with the Registrar of Societies would be given a one-off payment of RM500, which would amount to a total of RM1,998,000.
Good news too for some 150 newspaper and book vendors as they are set to get a one-off payment of RM500 each.
All applications can be made through the official government’s portal from tomorrow.
