THE nation’s first Engineering Exhibition and Conference, better known as Engineer 2020, is set to take place in September next year.

The flagship event is expected to be the premier engineering business event in South-East Asia and will be held for four consecutive days from Sept 23 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Business and lifestyle exhibition organiser, C.I.S Network Sdn Bhd and the country’s largest professional organisation for engineering fraternity, the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) are jointly organising the event.

C.I.S Network and IEM inked a letter of collaboration in conjunction with the soft launch of Engineer 2020, at an event held at the convention centre.

At its soft launch, C.I.S Network president Datuk Vincent Lim said the inaugural Engineer 2020 is dedicated towards the rapidly growing engineering industries and would be a platform which offers insight into new solutions and advanced engineering technologies by participating companies.

“Targeting the engineering professionals and its industry players from Malaysia and the region, Engineer 2020 will also be the ideal platform for the exhibitors to launch new products to the market,” he said at the event.

“As we progress towards becoming the premier engineering business event in South-East Asia, we aim to bring together the engineering community to be inspired, innovate and keep abreast with the current legislation and regulation governing the industry,” Lim said.

“We have formed a great synergy with IEM as both organisations are deeply committed towards building a knowledge-driven community that is future-focused on solving challenges, providing solutions and developing successful and sustained business opportunities,” he added.

IEM president David Lai Kong Phooi said they were proud that Engineer 2020 would be a key event under the umbrella of the annual IEM Convention 2020.

He explained that Engineer 2020 would witness 16 engineering disciplines, including civil, mechanical and electrical, showcasing the best and innovative solutions, products and new technologies.

Lai also stressed that IEM had maintained a steady growth of membership with the objective of promoting engineering excellence in the country.

“I am truly pleased to witness the growth of our institution from its humble beginnings in 1959 with just 60 members to more than 50,000 members today,” he said.

“I am hopeful that engineers will continue to play a pivotal role in nation building and production facilities that will place Malaysia on the world map.

“Towards this end, IEM had been working very hard to promote Malaysian engineers internationally through our involvement in Asean as well as Asia-Pacific,” he added.

Speaking to reporters later, Lim said they were expecting between 60 and 80 exhibitors to take part in Engineer 2020.

“We are targeting it to be the Asean hub for the engineers from Malaysia and regional countries. We wish Engineer 2020 would be the platform to cater to the needs of all engineers and industry players, where it can act as a hub for business, friendship, networking and business matching,” he added.

Lim said Engineer 2020 would feature 150 exhibition booths comprising Malaysian and regional exhibitors.

Some 8,000 visitors consisting of engineering professionals and trade visitors from around the country and the region are expected at the exhibition.

Engineer 2020 will boast a multi-pronged agenda, to network, build business and partnerships and promote learning through the exhibition.

It will also feature a series of industry meetings, conferences, symposiums, workshops and forums, business matching programmes, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours, a gala dinner, and an awards presentation ceremony that will feature notable names in the industry and government.
