Mitraland Group chairman Datuk Johan Ariffin said the company made similar donations in the past as part of its CSR initiative.
“This is a part of our efforts to build ties with the local community so wherever we are, we try to get closer with the residents.
“For us education is very important. That is why our CSR programmes focus on raising funds for schools, ” he said at the event.
Johan added that the company also chose to assist media companies involved in helping the needy.
“Media companies have the structure to evaluate the more deserving cases.
“We trust them and we like to work with people with the same mind for the betterment of the community, ” he said after presenting cheques to the recipients along with Mitraland Group deputy executive chairman Chuah Theong Yee.
Mitraland has been supporting the Star Foundation, the charitable arm of Star Media Group, for the last six years.
