Developer gives back to community

Mitraland Group presented RM257,500 to nine organisations and four schools during its annual 5km Charity Fun Run at the Gravit8 Sales Gallery in Klang.

The four beneficiaries that received aid were SJK(C) Pin Hwa 1 (RM42,000), SJK(C) Pandamaran B (RM40,000), SJK(C) Wu Teck (RM34,000) and SJK(T) Ladang Highlands (RM28,000).

Contributions to the schools were the result of proceeds from registration fees collected from students who participated in the fun run, with Mitraland matching the amount twofold for every school.

SJK(C) Pin Hwa 1 collected RM21,000 in registration fees, SJK(C) Pandamaran B (RM20,000), SJK(C) Wu Teck (RM17,000) and SJK(T) Ladang Highlands (RM14,000).

Meanwhile, the nine organisations that received donations were Pertubuhan Al-Khadeem (RM20,000), Lions Education Foundation (RM18,500), The Edge Education Group and Sin Chew Foundation (15,000 each), The Star Foundation and Nanyang Press Foundation, New Straits Times (M) Bhd Kiwanis Club TTDI Convention (RM10,000 each), and Pertubuhan Waja Home (RM5,000).

Mitraland Group chairman Datuk Johan Ariffin said the company made similar donations in the past as part of its CSR initiative.

“This is a part of our efforts to build ties with the local community so wherever we are, we try to get closer with the residents.

“For us education is very important. That is why our CSR programmes focus on raising funds for schools, ” he said at the event.

Johan added that the company also chose to assist media companies involved in helping the needy.

“Media companies have the structure to evaluate the more deserving cases.

“We trust them and we like to work with people with the same mind for the betterment of the community, ” he said after presenting cheques to the recipients along with Mitraland Group deputy executive chairman Chuah Theong Yee.

Mitraland has been supporting the Star Foundation, the charitable arm of Star Media Group, for the last six years.
