PENANG Starwalk’s maiden ambassador Christinna Kuan has vowed to use her clout as a digital influencer to bring in the numbers for the premier sporting event.
She made her alma mater SMK Convent Butterworth the first stop in her quest for more participants.
“I took part in Starwalk before and it was really fun. It is important to lead a healthy lifestyle,” said Kuan, who has over 282,000 followers on Instagram and 15,000 subscribers on YouTube.
“I’ll use these platforms to deliver messages to my followers, targeting those between 16 and 30 years old,” she said.
Popularly known as @ms_kuan, the fashion, lifestyle and beauty blogger is also the founder of Christinna.K and UFCO Global, a start-up business selling branded street wear and self-manufactured clothing items.
She was present when school principal Lim Lean Yolk handed over Penang Starwalk entry forms to Star Media Group executive (print circulation) Rajkumar Abraham at the school on Wednesday.
School teacher Yasmin Abd Rahman said 110 students had signed up for the walk, adding that more entries are expected in the next few days.
She said 80 students took part in the walk last year.
School senior assistant (co-curriculum) Phan Cheng Mun said she had been encouraging students to take part in the annual event.
“They will get state-level co-curriculum marks for participation in the event.
“The points will certainly come in handy, especially when applying for tertiary education,” she added.
Form Four student M. Thushithra said she had been taking part in the event for the past two years.
“This is a good opportunity to spend time with my friends and explore the streets,” she said.
Form Five student Adriana Abd Aziz said this would be her third year taking part in the walk.
“I love walking and the registration fee is reasonable if you go through the school.
Form Four student Victoria Lee was excited as she would be taking part in the event for the first time.
“I am counting the days as it is going to be fun walking with my friends and classmates.
“Chances are I’ll be making new friends during the event.
“I hope the walk will make me slimmer as I am a bit fat now!” she joked.
Organised by Star Media Group Bhd, Penang Starwalk 2019 will be held at Gurney Drive on Sept 22.
Gurney Paragon Mall is the venue provider while F&N Beverages Marketing Sdn Bhd is the official beverage.
