Club gets digital access to The Star

Star Media Group (SMG) is sponsoring 300 subscriptions to The Star digital bundle for Lions Clubs International (LCI) District 308B2, Malaysia.

This was done in conjunction with SMG’s 50th anniversary last year as well as to inculcate the habit of reading mainstream news in the country.

LCI District 308B2, Malaysia received a year’s subscription to The Star digital access and a year’s subscription to The Star epaper.

SMG chief financial officer Sam Au welcomed the team from Lions Club during its visit to Menara Star and said the company was in support of reading programmes.

“LCI District 308B2 has its reading action programme, which aims to improve literacy.

“SMG is passionate in cultivating reading habits among society, especially children and youths.

“Our sponsorship is in line with the digital reading products too,” said Au.

LCI District 308B2 district governor Michel Yee Yoke Cheng said the team was thrilled to be part of the sponsorship programme and hoped to be roped in for more collaborative work with SMG.

She added that LCI was always supportive of the numerous activities by SMG such as the StarWalk in Penang and the Anak-Anak Malaysia Walk.

Meanwhile, LCI District 308B2 multiple district reading action programme chairman Datuk Patrick Chew Kok Bin said the team was glad to accept the sponsorship and invitation by SMG to continue good ties and long-term collaboration.

According to Chew, the collaboration with SMG goes back to over 20 years.

“We are excited to work with a media company such as The Star.

“We want to showcase our numerous outreach efforts through The Star’s multiple platforms, including its digital platforms.

“During the recent floods, we carried out a number of outreach programmes and with publicity from SMG, we received good public support for our programmes,” he said.

Among those who visited Menara Star from LCI District 308B2 were first vice-district governor of Puchong Loy Kwee Keow, second vice-district governor of Sunway Damansara Metro Alan Thoo S’y-Kit and district chairman for reading action programme region 8 & 9 of Damansara Centennial Dr Christina Iek Ren Teng.

The team was also greeted by SMG’s corporate office special officer Loo Phan Kooi and circulation manager Yap Wan Ying.
