JOHOR BARU: UDA Holdings Bhd (UDA) has expanded its UDA Cares corporate social responsibility programmes (CSR) to help improve the quality of life of the local community.

UDA acting president and chief executive officer Zahrin Zakaria said the company would continue to reach out to the local community, especially those in need of assistance in the areas where it was operating.

“Our CSR programmes are part of our business philosophy to give back to society,’’ he said at the launch of UDA Cares in conjunction with the company’s Hari Raya celebration held at Angsana Johor Baru Mall here.

Zahrin said CSR programmes not only added value, assisted and benefitted the local community, they also forged a closer relationship between the company and its surrounding community.

He said UDA Cares was introduced in 2017 to have a specific brand in order to create awareness among the local community.

He explained that although UDA had carried out CSR programmes since the company was established in 1971, there was no specific branding or name featured.

“We hope the branding will create better awareness of our efforts and initiatives to strengthen the local community through our CSR programmes,’’ he said.

In conjunction with the launch, UDA introduced four new segments namely – UDA Cares Education, UDA Cares Entrepreneur, UDA Cares Project RE and UDA Cares Enriching Life.

UDA Cares Education focuses on strengthening the younger generation through education and todate, 11 schools in Johor, Penang, Perak, Pahang, Terengganu and Selangor have been adopted by the company.

At the event, SMK Bandar Uda Utama and SK Sungai Danga each received RM30,000 as the company’s adopted schools. The money would be utilised for their academic and extra-curricular activities.

UDA Cares Entrepreneur is introduced in tandem with the company’s role as one of the agencies under the Entrepreneur Development Ministry.

“We want to encourage entrepreneurship among the local community, especially the younger generation in the areas we are operating,’’ said Zahrin.

UDA Cares Project RE focuses on three main elements, namely community, environment and health to enhance, improve and strengthen the quality of life of the local community.

UDA Cares Enriching Life will reach out to asnaf (eligible recipients) through the company’s yearly contribution of zakat (business tithes).

UDA is involved in property development, assets and facilities management, retail complexes as well as hospitality.
